Philly's Vexers were recently signed to Ace Fu Records
and will release a 10 song debut in Jan. 2003. Featuring former
members of dream pop bands, The Lily's, The Ropers and Juniper,
Vexers crank out raw, high energy pop laden punk rock that fans
of The Vibrators, Gun Club, Selby Tigers and Sleater Kinney will
dig on.
Ex-Refused member Kristofer Steen will be making an official Refused

"BAM" (Brooklyn Academy of Music) will host
the U.S. premiere of "Woyzeck," written by Tom Waits and
Kathleen Brennan for the Robert Wilson directed, George Buchner
play of the same name. "Woyzeck" will begin at the Harvey
Theater in Brooklyn, NY on October 29 and run through November 3;
then the production heads west to Los Angeles for an engagement
at UCLA's Freud Hall from December 3rd to the 15th.
In late September a deal with Nick Cave was finalized
by the ANTI label.The exclusive license with Mute Records in the
UK will allow Nick and the Bad Seeds to release their ANTI debut
in early 2003.
Azure Ray and The Good Life are heading overseas to
support Bright Eyes on their full European Tour. The Good Life's
latest record, Black Out, as well as Azure Ray's recent EP, November,
will be properly released in Europe on November 4th via the newly
formed Saddle Creek Europe.
According to Pitchfork Media, The Promise Ring are
officially disbanding. Frontman Davey Von Bohlen reportedly announced
the split at a Plea for Peace show last week, but it was unclear
whether the band were actually disbanding or if Von Bohlen was simply
cutting some band members loose. In a statement issued from Anti-,
a source at the label confirmed the end of the band.
Mute/Blast First will release a Liars E.P. in November called Fins
to Make Us More Fish-LikeThe EP features two new recordings and
a song from the Liars' debut album They Threw Us All in a Trench
and Stuck a Monument on Top, and will be available on CD and vinyl.
The Flaming Lips will soon appear on the WB's "Charmed."
The band will perform its current single, "Do You Realize?"
from their latest album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, in the
episode, which is set for broadcast November 17.
Sepultura will release an EP called Revolusongs
through SPV next month. The band has just finished recording the
EP with producer Steve Evetts, and it includes covers of tracks
by U2, Jane's Addiction, Massive Attack, Hellhammer and Exodus.
New York hardcore band Madball have reunited and will
perform their first comeback show at Krome in South Amboy, New Jersey,
on December 6. Also appearing on the bill will be Most Precious
Blood, Death Threat and No Warning.
French label Diabolik Records has just released a
live split CD with Propagandhi and Cria Cuervos (from France). Both
bands contributed five songs recorded during their last respective
Paris gigs.
Reel Big Fish escaped a burning tour bus unharmed
in October when their driver alerted the sleeping group and crew
members that the bus was on fire while they were parked at a truck
stop in Missouri. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the
band will continue the tour to promote their album, Cheer Up.
Jets to Brazil have cancelled their entire 34-date
fall tour, which was to have commenced Monday night in Brooklyn,
NY, due to "sudden illness," according to Jade Tree's
official website. The cancelled tour was to support their new album,
Perfecting Lonliness.
Whippersnapper is heading to Japan to play some shows
in January 2003 with the likes of the Vandals, The Ataris and No
Use For a Name.
The first day of October ushered in the new Oma Yang
full length CD, Bang Bang! The band has purchased a new van
and Roots of Orchis have joined them on the road for the tour, which
lasts until November 24.
Barsuk Records recently released a new Death Cab for
Cutie CD, You Can Play These Songs With Chords. Originally
an 8-song Elsinor Records cassette from 1997, the CD version has
been remastered and enhanced with 10 additional hard-to-find and
previously unreleased songs, and includes comments from the band
members about the bonus tracks.
Holiday Matinee is pleased to announce the release
for their third annual CD Compilation. The compilation, titled Composed
On Bicycles offers a well-rounded and diverse introduction to
some of the most talented indie bands around at the moment. The
CD is packaged in stunning artwork by NYC via San Diego illustrator,
Joshua Krause (www.krauseart.com).

Nile will commence the second US headlining leg of
the 'In Their Darkened Shrines' World Tour on January 17th in Houston,
TX. Support is Napalm Death, Strapping Young Lad and a few others.
Today Is The Day have begun a massive North American headlining
Tour that runs until December 8. Joining them on the road will be
Bongzilla, Bloodlet, DRI and a few others.
High On Fire will leave the Mushroom Head/Shadows
Fall tour on November 14th to undertake their first headlining tour
of Japan (with Mastodon supporting).
Breaking Pangaea headed back out on the road for a
full-on tour starting mid-october and ending November 13.
According to Punkbands.com, Midtown has been dropped
by MCA and Drive-Thru Records plans on picking the band back up.
Finch will also probably be leaving MCA Records due to a lack of
label support.
Mike (Blue Ash Solution), Poppy (The Stoics), and
guitarist Jeremiah and a friend from Columbus, Ohio have been playing
together and getting a set of songs ready. They decided on the name
Gun Medal Gray. Their sound is early emo/hardcore along the lines
of Current.
Newly reborn Ohio based Confined Records has licensed
the latest Unearth E.P. Endless to be pressed on limited
edition vinyl. The record will be out in early to mid-December and
is currently available for pre-order through www.confinedrecords.com.
The(International) Noise Conspiracy have been forced
to pull out of the Plea for Peace Tour due to a back problem developed
by drummer Ludwig, according to the group's Web site. Ludwig or
"Ludde" has visited a chiropractor, an ER and an acupuncturist
since developing intense muscle spasms following the band's show
in Minneapolis last week.
After a lengthy search for a new drummer, Slayer have
decided that for their next record, they're going to use original
bandmember Dave Lombardo, who has been playing with the group live
since Paul Bostaph left the band last December. Lombardo will also
play drums on the next Fantômas record.
Andrew WK has booked a 20-city tour with Los Angeles'
Flogging Molly, Chicago's Allister and Sweden's Sahara Hotnights.
Boston's Lost City Angels, who include former members of Spring
Heeled Jack and the Pilfers, are also on the trek, which begins
October 19 in Denver and ends November 10 in Los Angeles.
Additional dates have been added to Beck's tour supporting
his latest album, Sea Change. The new dates, which feature
the Flaming Lips as Beck's opening act and backup band, will begin
November 12 in Austin, Texas, and end November 27 in Oakland, California.
New Order are currently in the studio working on a
follow-up to last year's Get Ready.
Cursive recorded a new album during their downtime
due to Tim Kasher's collapsed lung. The Ugly Organ will hit
shelves in February/March 2003.
Oneida and Liars are assembling a five-song split
EP, tentatively titled Atheists Reconsider. An early press
release from Arena Rock Recording Co. characterizes the sound of
this collection as "ear-splitting, acid-dropping, sweatbox
show tunes."
Former Hüsker Dü and Sugar frontman Bob
Mould has announced that his forthcoming 2003 album, Body of
Song, won't be the electronic knob tweaking we heard on Modulate,
instead landing a lot closer to past solo efforts like Workbook.
Mould has also announced a month of tour dates that will take him
around the eastern U.S. to promote Modulate and preview the
new material.
The Strokes have announced the support acts for their
highly anticipated fall tour, ranging from Sloan, You Am I, The
Donnas, Ben Kweller, Adam Green of Moldy Peaches, and Har Mar Superstar.
Hot Hot Heat will release their latest CD/LP in October
titled Make Up the Breakdown. Following close on the heels
of their critically-acclaimed Knock Knock Knock EP, Make
Up the Breakdown is Hot Hot Heat's debut SubPop full-length,
recorded with Jack Endino at Vancouver, BC's Mushroom Studios.
British rock band Elbow has called off its previously
announced U.S. tour, citing a "personal emergency." The
tour was originally scheduled to bring the band back to North America
for its second round of dates this year. Elbow is currently at work
on a new album, the follow-up to its debut LP, Asleep In The
Back.
November 26 will see the reissue of the long sought
after first release from Canadian duo Boards Of Canada. The nine-track
album, titled Twoism, was originally released seven years
ago in a pressing of only 100 vinyl copies. Warp Records is re-releasing
the debut on both CD and vinyl.
A cover of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" and
"Fred Jones Part 2" featuring Cake's John McCrea are among
the songs on the final track list for Ben Folds Live, due
October 8. Folds will promote the album, the first 100,000 copies
of which will include a bonus DVD with 35 minutes of live footage,
with a tour beginning October 10.
Oil: Chicago Punk Refined, due February 10
from Chicago's Thick Records, will feature 19 bands recorded over
16 days at an old oil-blending factory on the city's South Side.
Among the artists on the album are Alkaline Trio, Detachment Kit,
the Reputation, the Dishes, the Ghost, Haymarket Riot and the Owls.
Badly Drawn Boy's Damon Gough will release his sophomore album,
Have You Fed The Fish, on November 5th.
My Morning Jacket have signed to the Dave Matthews-founded
ATO Records - home to Gov't Mule and Ben Kweller - and will soon
begin work on their third album at their farm/studio in Shelbyville,
Kentucky.
Songs: Ohia will be teaming up with Damien Jurado
for U.S. dates in October and November. Jurado, who has recently
signed to Secretly Canadian, is working on a new full-length album
with a winter 2003 release date.
Sigur Rós will be supporting their October
29th release ( ) with a 20-date tour of the U.S. this October
and November.
On October 22nd, David Bowie is set to release a greatest
hits collection. The catch is that there will be 23 separate incarnations
of the two-disc Best Of Bowie. The collection will also be
available as a single-disc version and on DVD with videos, television
performances, and all manner of "previously unseen footage."
AFI have begun recording their follow-up to 2000's
The Art of Drowning. Garbage's Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing
Pumpkins) and Jerry Finn (Blink-182, Green Day) are producing.
New Found Glory will release The Story So Far,
a DVD featuring interviews, performances and behind-the-scenes footage,
on October 15, according to the band's Web site. Also included will
be videos for "My Friends Over You," "Head On Collision,"
"Dressed to Kill" and two versions of "Hit or Miss."
Le Tigre member J.D. Samson is posing for a new calendar
with the telling title: "Am I girl or a boy?". As Samson's
andogyn presence has already been discussed in public, the Le Tigre
member decided to take a stand by posing for the well known L.A.
based photographer Cass Bird.
American Nightmare is currently facing a courtroom
battle. Another band from Philadelphia seems to have occupied the
same name as the famous hardcore band from Boston
Due to increasing debts, California-based Slap-A-Ham
records has finally decided to stop releasing records, shutting
the label down after 13 years. The label has released many great
records such as various Spazz albums. All other upcoming releases
that were planned for Slap A Ham (including Lana Dagales, and Iron
Lung) are coming out on other labels like Deep Six, 625, and Six
Weeks.
Ikara Colt (from England) have signed to Epitaph Records.
The first release under the deal is Ikara Colt's debut album, Chat
and Business, which will be available on Monday, October 14.
H20 is releasing a new EP called, All We Want.
It is a six track EP that includes three new studios recordings
(their first since "GO") and live recordings from CBGB's
of three classic H20 songs and a bonus video. The EP is slated for
a mid-October release on MCA Records.
Straight Ahead Records will be officially releasing
Hellfest 2002 compilation CD. This will be a double comp
CD including about 50 selected bands. Some of them are: 18 Visions,
Most Precious Blood, Nora, Hopesfall, Avenged Sevenfold, Moneen

Asian Man Records will release the Teen Idols/Squirtgun
split in February. The split will have 2 new songs for each band.
Kill Your Idols are planning two releases in the near
future, one being an EP on Underestimated/Lifeline, and the other
is an LP on SideOneDummy.
The Movielife hit the studio this September with producer
Brian Mcternan who has worked with the likes of Thrice and Snapcase.
Park will go into the studio early 2003 for
a Spring release.
