Gossip -- Mid-December 2001

Dayton News
Important news from the Rod camp:
"Last night our whole world was shattered when with the exception of two guitars, all of our gear was lifted. We had played in Columbus, OH and had a practiced scheduled this weekend. This morning, we woke up in Dayton to find our van missing. We filed a report and waited over two hours for the police to show up. During this time, we found the van a couple blocks away all tore up and pried open. All the gear was gone. It would help us out immeasurably if everyone would keep an eye out for the listed gear to quickly pop up at any of your area music stores, pawn shops, or somebody else's rig, especially in the Midwest.  Everyone anywhere could do us a huge favor by keeping an eye out for some of these items being put up on ebay or things of the such all by the same person.

Here's a rundown of the missing gear:

GUITAR AMPS / CABS -
late 90's Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Rackmount in 6 space SKB case.
1974 HiWatt (head) Custom 100 DR-103 - Has scratches next to the knobs to mark settings on the front
Marshall JCM900 cabs - 1 angled and 1 straight.
angled: Does not have Marshall logo or "jcm 900" logo on front, has glue stains where Marshall logo was.
Straight: some tearing on back tolex, has Marshall dust cover.

BASS -
Mesa/Boogie Bass 400 in a shockmount case.
4-space SKB case with Korg Tuner and Power Conditioner.
Ampeg SVT 410 HLF bass cabinet.

DRUMS -
Pearl Export series 5-piece, pearl hardware, dark purple.

If you come across anything, please email us at band@rod-music.com and/or feel free to phone us at (937) 254 7325.

We know that 98% of the time in things of this sort nothing will turn up, but we will continue to do everything we can. Nobody in our band has came from a wealthy background, nor do we have any other gear. All of us have worked our asses off to get the quality stuff we had. For the last two years, this band has been our life. I have pretty much sold off everything I own to be able to tour consistently and make ends meet. We're scheduled to leave for 3 weeks coast to coast in Feb. With a jacked van and no gear, I'm still not sure how we are going to pull it off, BUT WE WILL. Thank you so much for reading and we owe you big if you'll keep an eye out for us."

For The Rest Of You...
Jon Finley, one time drummer of The Party of Helicopters and bass player for The Man I Fell in Love With, has been recording a full-length record set to be out in time for a winter tour, opening for his old mates in POH.

In 2001, after four tours, Pankration drummer Rob left the band and was replaced by Josh Phelps, of Akron's now defunct The Phelps Hex. Shortly after, Pankration roadie and Kent-area vocalist Ed Evans joined the fray to remind the band that, yes, vocals are important. The band is now in the process of writing new material and focusing on playing shows in the Cleveland area.

Eulogy’s Unsung Zeros have recently released a new MCD titled, Fading Out, available only at the Eulogy Online Store. The 5 track MCD preceeds a forthcoming full-length, which looks like a summer release.

We will all be dodging flying drumsets soon if the rumors about Kansas City’s Coalesce doing a reunion tour are true.  Look for updates at www.coalescemusic.com.  Looks like the tour will happen in March/April of 2002.

Equal Vision will be unleashing several new albums at the beginning of the year.  Liars Academy is the latest edition to the Equal Vision family.  They are not the label's usual brand of hardcore or pop punk, but instead have more of an indie rock sound.  They have played a few shows on the East Coast and in the Midwest with Cadillac Blindside.  They have upcoming dates in February to support their new release No News is Good News.  Coheed and Cambria, from New York, have also been added to the roster.  An emo/progrock hybrid somewhat akin to Rush and Further Seems Forever recently returned from several dates with Digger and Breaking Pangaea in the Midwest.

The Black Halos are breaking up, and their farewell show has been set with a gig at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, Canada on the Saturday before Christmas. The break up came when guitarist Rich Jones announced he was leaving the band to join Amen. Filling in for Jones will be Theo from Gob.
