Dayton’s Twelve Tribes have officially changed
their name to Prodigal Zoo. Expect a release from them via Ferret
sometime next year.
Early Day Miners is hitting the road this winter and are sharing
the stage with Le Tigre and Les Georges Leningrad. All this precedes
the November 24 release of The Sonograph EP, which is dropping
on the Acuarela label.
Talib Kweli is in the studio working on his next solo album. The
tentative title is The Beautiful People, and it's due out in the
spring.
Secret Machines have just mastered their full-length debut for
Warner-affiliated Sire Records, according to guitarist Benjamin
Curtis.
Wilco have begun work on their fifth album in a New York studio
with producer/multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke of Sonic Youth.
The LP is expected to surface in the spring.
White Stripes frontman Jack White has contributed
two new songs, "Never
Far Away" and "Christmas Time Will Soon Be Over," as
well as three covers to the soundtrack to his film debut, "Cold
Mountain." The soundtrack drops December 16.
Warp Records, the London-based electronic record label and film
company, is becoming the first label to provide the world with
their entire discography as pay-per-track MP3 downloads. Named
Bleep.com, the whole deal is set to launch in December
Jimmy Coup, the guitarist for Andrew W.K.'s band, parted company
with the band over musical differences. The group's guitar tech
will sit in on the current tour until AWK can find a permanent
replacement.
Roy, the band featuring ex and current members of Botch, These
Arms Are Snakes, Harkonen and Deathknight, will be releasing their
full length debut Big City Sin and Small Town Redemption on Fueled
By Ramen this coming January.
Statistics, an electro-pop/rock
project from Desaparecidos guitarist Denver Dalley, will release
Leave Your Name, the full-length follow-up
to their debut EP on Jade Tree on January 20th.
The Cure's four-disc box set, The
Cure: Join the Dots: B-Sides and Rarities, 1978-2001 (The Fiction
Years) is due January 27.
The (International) Noise Conspiracy have signed to Rick Rubin's
American Recordings (itself a part of the Island/Def Jam conglomeration).
The Strokes are slated to play Las Vegas' Cox Pavilion on New
Year's Eve.
Unsane, Mastodon, Alabama Thunder Pussy, Kung Pao, Dixie Witch,
Lamont, Keelhaul, Buried at Sea and Yob are among the acts lined
up for next year's Emissions From the Monolith festival in Youngstown,
Ohio.
The Vans Warped Tour will celebrate its 10th anniversary with
a special show in Boston on August 20 that will bring together
bands from throughout the tour's history. Next year's edition of
the tour will hit the road with a lineup featuring New Found Glory,
Taking Back Sunday, Coheed and Cambria, and others beginning June
24 in Houston. On December 10, unsigned bands will compete in Los
Angeles for a spot on the tour.
Pretty Girls Make Graves got their van back, but it was empty
and all their merch was stolen. They've set up a PayPal donation

Dillinger Escape Plan will tour with the Locust starting January
14 in Sauget, Illinois, and running through March 3 in Denver.
Trans Am will be releasing Liberation in February. Sticking with
Thrill Jockey, the record will contain 14 tracks.
Frog Eyes switched over to Berkeley-based Absolutely Kosher Records.
They’ve scheduled an appearance at SXSW 2004 with AK and
are starting a new record with Colin Stewart (Destroyer) and Darryl
Smith (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) behind the boards.
Pretty Girls Make Graves have recorded a cover of Bow Wow Wow's "C30
C60 C90 Go" for inclusion on the "All Medicated Geniuses" single
to be released in December. Matador will have the single available
through its website.
Kung Fu, the label operated by the Vandals' Joe Escalante is tentatively
eyeing a May release for a Warped Tour DVD that will include performances
from the Ataris, Poison the Well, Tsunami Bomb, and Simple Plan.
Refused will rear their heads again with the Refused
Are F---ing Dead collection, which will be comprised of never-before-seen material
and videos. Meanwhile, Refused's landmark 1998 album, The Shape
of Punk to Come, has been remixed and remastered in 5.1 surround
DVD audio format, with the re-release (as well as remastered editions
of Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent and The
EP Compilation)
set for release early next year.
Former This Runs Through singer Spencer Chamberlain has joined
Underoath and will make his first recorded appearance with the
band on next year's follow-up to The Changing of Times. The band
plans to enter the studio in February.
New wave punk band the Stranglers will begin a tour of the U.K.
November 25 to support their new album, Norfolk Coast, which drops
February 10 overseas.
After two years of touring to support their self-titled debut,
The Datsuns are settling into recording. It is rumored that a member
of Led Zepplin will be producing the effort, which will include
several songs that were written before the release of their previous
record.
Desaparecidos are working on a new album that should be in the
can by early February. The band may be touring to support it, with
new bass player Casey Scott (of Drip, a band featuring Andy Lemaster
of Now Its Overhead).
One of the founding members and bassist for
The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower, Dan Maier, is calling it
a day. He's leaving
the band for personal reasons and because of his inability to commit
to touring plans. Willy Graves (formerly of Dosage & Usage/Schoolboys)
is taking over bass duties for the band.

Die Monitr Batss will release their new album
sometime next year. TMU will also be releasing the next Fat
Day record, the 7” vinyl
version of the Numbers/Erase Errata split and solo singles by Al
Burian, Paradise Island, Dan Littleton, Kid 606 and Sharon Cheslow.
Tracy and the Plastics finished
their new record for TMU titled,
Culture For Pigeon. It will be a LP/DVD OR CD/DVD set.
The DVD will contain two original films with music.
Broke Revue finished their TMU debut debut titled, O
Clouds Unfold.
It will be a double LP and CD. TMU hope to have it out by March
2004. The Lake of Dracula discography will also be out on TMU in
early 2004.
Measles Mumps Rubella are currently recording their TMU full-length
for a January 2003 release and The Rogers Sisters just finished
their new record for TMU.
According to the Matador Records website: "On Wednesday,
December 3rd, hear Cat Power perform on the World Café with
David Dye. The World Café can be heard on more than 160
stations nationwide. Fans can find their local station by going
to the World Café website, or they can listen online Monday
to Friday at 2 PM and 1 AM EST via the WXPN website."
The Blood Brothers are working on a new video
for the song "Cecilia
and Silhouette Saloon" with the help of the fine folks over
at Strictly Amatuer Films.
Heavy Party, the band featuring members of Radio Berlin, Red Light
Sting, A Luna Red, Secret Mommy and Piers Whyte, will complete
their studio recording this month and set aside time from duties
in their other bands to begin playing some shows in 2004. No official
dates for release have been set.
Rumor has it that the Jealous Sound is close to closing
a deal over at Immortal
Planes Mistaken For Stars are still working on material for the
follow-up to 2001's Fuck with Fire. They recently recorded a number
of demos with Alex Newport, who has worked in the past with The
Mars Volta and The Icarus Line. The demos are essentially being
used to shop around for a label to release the record, which they
plan on recording during the winter.
Factory Records is releasing a Joy Division live box set on November
24th.

new album titled, East on Childstar Records in January of 2004.
Mogwai is planning on touring Japan with Envy.
We’re keeping
our fingers crossed that this means Mogwai convince them to come
to the states or the UK.
The Red Light Sting's put the final touches on their first full-length
record, which will be out in February 2004 on Sound Virus.

Unearth will be recording their Metal Blade Records debut in February
2004.
Les Savy Fav have finally completed recording material for their
nine-volume series of seven-inches. The group eventually plans
to release all 18 tracks on a CD compilation on bassist Syd Butler's
Frenchkiss Records. Originally slated for a 2003 release, the comp
is now expected to drop in April of 2004.
A new Los Angeles based record label, Cold
Sweat (which I believe is run by Sam from Bluebird) has announced
that they’ll be
releasing the new record from The Starlite Desperation. The Starlite
Desperation have reformed as a three-piece, and have been playing
shows around Cali with The Kills, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Datsuns,
Look for that record to drop with six new songs (recorded with
Donnas producer Jason Cramer) this winter.
Between The Buried And Me have parted ways with guitarist Nick
Fletcher. The group will finish out their current tour as a four-piece,
but will be looking for a new full-time guitarist upon arrival
home in mid-December.
4AD announced November 8 that New York trio Blonde
Redhead are
the latest addition to their roster.
The Gloria Record are writing songs
for a follow up to last year's Start Here.
The Envy, This Machine Kills, Yaphet Kotto
split CD is out now on Sonzai Records, which is Tetsu from Envy’s
label.
Darkest Hour will be touring Europe in February and March 2004.
Whirlwind Heat will be releasing a single or EP with Dim Mak sometime
in the future.
Syracuse-based Ed Gein will be hitting the road this winter from
December 27 to January 13.

Small Brown Bike have posted an official announcement on their

Lookout! Records announced the signing of one
of San Francisco's Evening. Their debut album, Other Victorians will be released February 10
Downset have apparently signed a deal with Seattle label Hawino
for the release of their new album, Universal.
Two members of Forstella Ford are looking to start a new band
in the Denton, TX area. Nick (bass, vocals), and Mark (vocals,
guitar) Sheppard are initially looking for a drummer, though they
may also look to add a second guitarist in the near future.
Matador Records and XL Recordings are pleased to announce that
we will jointly be releasing the acclaimed debut album by Dizzee
Rascal, Boy In Da Corner in the US this January.
The Intelligence’s Boredom
And Terror CD will be officially
released on Omnibus Records on Jan. 6, 2004. Also coming soon from
Omnibus are 7”s from The Coachwhips, A-Frames, and a CD from
Karate Party.
Rye Coallition has been signed to Dreamworks.
Face To Face is calling it quits. Trever Keith has started up a
record label called Sound on Sound for which the band is in the
process of compiling a career retrospective CD and companion
DVD and Shiflett (with Keith) recently completed work on the
second Viva Death album.
Down To Earth Approach recently signed to Vagrant and are finishing
writing, and preparing to record their first full-length record,
to be released early 2004 on Vagrant Records.
Bob Anderson (Bobby Raw) and Jay McMillan (Jay Mac) are parting ways with River
City High. The split leaves RCH frantically seeking both a drummer and guitarist
talented enough jump right into recording a full-length and EP, due out on
Doghouse Records this January.
The Special Goodness, fronted by Weezer's Pat Wilson, have signed to Epitaph
Records and are planning to re-release their most recent effort, Land Air
Sea in late January 2004.
Kings of Leon, the Darkness, Muse, Felix Da
Housecat, Thursday, Afrika Bambaataa, Poison the Well, Sleepy
Jackson, Audio Bullys
and Lost Prophets have been added to Australia’s Big
Day Out touring festival. The festival begins its trek through Australia
and New Zealand January 16 in Auckland.
Kill Rock Stars will be releasing the debut album by Casual Dots,
the latest project fronted by Christina Billotte (formerly of Autoclave
and Slant 6, currently of Quix*o*tic) in late winter. The Washington,
D.C. trio, comprised of vocals, two guitars and drums also includes
Kathi Wilcox (Bikini Kill) and Steve Dore (The Corrections, Deep
Lust).
There is a big show going down New Year's Day in Syracuse. The
show, which will take place at Action Sports and Skate in Mattydale,
a suburb on Syracuse, will include Bane, Throwdown, Most Precious
Blood, Wall of Jericho, and Freya among others.
Stereolab is preparing to drop their next album, Margerine Eclipse.
This will be Stereolab's first full-length album since the accidental
death of guitarist Mary Hansen last year. It is set for a release
date of January 27th, 2004 in these United States via Elektra (plus
a double vinyl release on Duophonic UHF Disks).
Two members of Love Life have started a new band. Katrina Ford
and Sean Antanaitis are now playing as just a duo and are going
under the name of Birdland. Sean plays keyboard, organ, guitar
and drum programming while Katrina belts out the vocals.
Social Distortion have completed some demos, and have confirmed
time soon in a Los Angeles studio to begin recording their follow
up to White Light, White Heat, White
Trash. There is no scheduled release date at the moment.
Avenged Sevenfold have signed to Warner Brothers, joining now
label-mates Rancid, Glassjaw, Less than Jake, and The Used.
The Offspring have announced that drummer Atom Willard will be
touring with the band starting this fall as they head out in support
of their new album Splinter. Atom was in Rocket From The Crypt
and more recently played with The Alkaline Trio and Melissa Auf
Der Maur.
Escapist, featuring ex-members of Drowningman, has broken up.
The End has officially signed with Relapse Records. The band has
also recorded another album, with producer Pierre Remillard (Cryptopsy,
Misery Index), which will stores on January 23th via Relapse.
Zao has officially signed with Ferret Music. The group, with new
frontman Josh Ashworth (ex-Society's Finest), will be entering
the studio in March 2004 to record their next album, Burn Beautiful.
Lookout! Records just signed The Reputation, which is a new band
featuring ex-Sarge frontwoman Elizabeth Elmore.
The Dillinger Escape Plan, High on Fire and Meshuggah are among
the bands slated for inclusion on the tribute album We Reach:
The Music of the Melvins, due in the summer. The album will be the
second release for Fractured Transmitter, the imprint owned by
Mushroomhead frontman Jason Mann. The label's first offering will
be a Meshuggah EP in the spring.
Sam Beam (aka. Iron and Wine) has completed recording on the follow-up
to last year's The Creek Drank the Cradle, and is now working on
mixing and mastering. The album is still untitled and un-tracklisted,
but it does have a tentative release date of March 23rd on Sub
Pop.
Seattle punk/metal band Zeke has signed with Relapse Records.
Look for their Relapse debut to hit stores in spring 2004.
Suede broke up.
Waking Kills The Dream have entered the studio to record their
next album, which is currently untitled. The effort will consist
of at least seven songs and will allegedly hit stores on February
17th via Good Life Recordings.
Guy Speranza, 47, the original singer of Riot, died on November
8 from pancreatic cancer. Speranza performed on the band's first
three studio records, 1977's Rock City, 1979's Narita and 1981's
Fire Down Under. Speranza's replacement, Rhett Forrester, was murdered
in Atlanta in 1994. After leaving behind his career in music, Speranza
worked as an exterminator in Florida. He was diagnosed with cancer
last spring.
Andy Ward of Get Hustle is in a new group called the Dears.
Kut U Up will be featured in the upcoming documentary "Riding
In Vans With Boys" (Resting Bird / Melee) that also features
Blink 182, Green Day and Jimmy Eat World.
Starsailor will launch a 16-date North American tour on January
15 in Detroit. The outing, in support of their LP Silence Is
Easy,
wraps February 12 in San Diego.
Lamb of God recently shot a video for "Ruin," the
next single off their album As the Palaces Burn. Lamb are also
working
on a DVD for next year that will include live footage from Hellfest
and the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, their videos,
and interview and behind-the-scenes footage.
Hans Fjellestad and Ryan Page are currently working on a full-length

Fu Manchu have recorded six new demo tracks,
including a cover of Black Flag's "Six Pack." When
the tracks might surface, however, has yet to be determined;
the band is currently looking
for a label and management.
The Descendents will return in March with a new album, their seventh
and first since 1996.
Pop-punk act Fall Out Boy has signed with Island Records.
There may soon be another feature length movie
focusing on the life of one of the Sex Pistols. This time it
will be based on the
group’s lead singer John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnnie Rotten) and
his autobiography “Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs.”
Ferret Music has signed Wisconsin's Misery
Signals. The band is
currently writing their debut full length for Ferret. They'll head
into the studio this winter, and the album can be expected in the
first half of 2004
Irish rockers Ash have begun recording their fifth album in Los
Angeles. Nick Raskulinecz, who worked behind the boards on the
Foo Fighters' One by One, is producing the record, due in the spring.
Fairweather have announced that they are breaking up.
Dwid, vocalist with Cleveland's Integrity,
has started a project called Sledgehammer with members of the
European bands Congress
and Liar. Integrity's split EP with the band First Blood, the third
in Deathwish Recordings' "Dead Man's Hand" split single
series, is due early next year.
The Get Up Kids have finished recording
their new album, which will be the follow up to their 2002 release,
On A Wire.
The album is still untitled, but will be released sometime in February.
