Gossip -- August 2001

Paul and Dave from BetterLooking Records have been busy boys and have set their fall release schedule, which if I must say looks absolutely dynomite:
September 4th Reubens Accomplice will release their debut full-length "I Blame The Scenery" CD / LP.  Straight out of Arizona, Reubens Accomplice deliver their debut full-length which finds its sound somewhere between the twang of Calexico or Wilco and the indie rock anthems of Archers of Loaf and Pavement.  Catch Reuben's Accomplice on tour with Jimmy Eat World in September.
September 18th brings Boilermaker’s long anticipated "Leucadia" CD.  One of the most inspirational bands to come from San Diego, Boilermaker have returned with this collection of 17 songs…five songs hand picked from their first three out of print releases…plus two new songs as a taste of what's to come.
October 16th the western world meets Ides of Space with their release of "There Are No New Clouds.”  Lush, dreamy guitar rock from Australia.  Imagine the music members of Seam and Ride would be listening to as they were driving past Disneyland at 4:20AM with fireworks filling the sky.  Yep...Ides of Space is that good.
October 30th we are treated to "Songs For Cassavetes: An All Ages Film" Soundtrack CD. The soundtrack features Sleater-Kinney, The Make-Up, Unwound, Further, PeeChees, Bratmobile, Crayon…and other favorites!
Keep an eye peeled for the Album Leaf / Bright Eyes collaboration to be released on 7" in Jan 2002!!

Baltimore’s premiere posi-core rockers, The Chase, just completed a short summer tour and are getting ready to demo out a new seven inch.   No word as to whether this will be released on Submit Records, who released their debut CD.

Though I heard that Jimmy Eat World would be the openers for the next Weezer tour, word on the streets is that Rivers got a crap-load of money to have Florida’s “hard-rockers” Cold join them instead for shows from September 6 through September 29

Rachel Hayden, daughter on jazz great Charlie Hayden and bass player of That Dog?, has been joining Jimmy Eat World to provide back up during performances in Los Angeles.  Word is that Hayden, who is featured on the new LP “Bleed American,” “could have used some polishing.”  Rachel is the sister of Petra Hayden (who co-wrote much of Ben Lee’s “Breathing Tornadoes.”

The Mooney Suzuki just got back from Detroit, where they had been shacked up laying down their next record at Ghetto Recordings with Jim "Diamond Jim" Diamond.  In the meantime, expect a new Mooney Suzuki 7" single on Estrus Records soon!

A reliable source recently revealed that a post Armstrong's Secret Nine (the guitarist)/The “New” Terror Class (Dave, in particular) band is brewing in Portland.  Is it the reincarnation of Suite Cheetah?  Who knows? Regardless this will definitely be some of the craziest shit anyone’s laid ears on since AS9 was shattering windows with their terrifying post-rock in the mid-nineties.

80s pioneers New Order's newest record is out and receiving steady rotation on M2.  I heard that the Smashing Pumpkin’s Billy Corgan is somehow involved, and he’s been making appearances with them he played with them recently.

Troubleman Unlimited has many highly anticipated releases on the horizon. October/November brings the debut The Lack CD (the packaging is supposed to be incredible). January/February brings Orchid side project PANTHERS  and their "Are You Down" LP/CD.

The Party Of Helicopters is in the studio recording for a new Troubleman release. The release will be a double CD. One CD will be all new stuff and the other will be the "Two Years on the Tundra" 12" on Progeria.
Song Of Zarathustra is also recording for a new Troubleman release as well, most likely a 12"/CD type thing.  This is gonna be a HOT, HOT follow-up to the “Birth of Tragedy” album, I just know it…
