Page99 -- These guys are like their own mosh
pit. There are seven of them onstage at once. When he wasn't trading
vocal lines with the other singer, this guy was climbing the PA.
I thought he was going to jump off ontop of my wife.

Cancer Conspiracy -- Fueled By Ramen's CC is
an instrumental band, in the vein of Mogwai (sort of) who are pretty
great at what they do.

Burnt By The Sun -- Anyone who has heard these
guys
on record can imagine what they were like on stage.
They are a heavy (and buff) hardcore band.

The Black Keys -- Keep an eye out for these guys!
They were definitely one of my top two favorites for the day on
Saturday. They played blues music that sounds a little like Hendrix
fronting the White Stripes. The drummer uses a marching band bass
drum for his kick, which is pretty interesting. I heard this from
a pretty reliable source: "At an after hours party, the drummer
from the Black Keys made some drumming crack at Gabe (The Locust)
and spouted out some sarcastic sentiments.... and, well, since sarcasm
doesn't really go over well when drunk, the fun began. Joey ashed
his cigarette into his beer bottle then proceeded to shake it into
his face.. Pat (Black Keys) took both of them into a headlock and
the threesome ended up biting and punching at each other while..
blood spraying everywhere.... falling into a pile of garbage....
egos were hurt and skin was eaten, but other than that everything
is cool.

The French Kicks -- Very poppy, british-invasion
sounding pop music. The drummer/singer was pretty entertaining to
watch as he bobbed and bounced his way through their set.

The Dropscience --These guys are one of the newest
Happy Couples Never Last bands. Wow. Strong stage presence, great
songs. I'm not sure how to describe their sound aside from
pretty mathy, and creative. Strong rhythm section, great guitarists,
a little keyboard. Woo haa.

Glass Candy and the Shattered Theater -- I was
pretty disappointed by these guys. I have heard the hype, been spinning
their songs for months, and was pretty stoked to see them. Unfortunately,
the stage was a little too big for their sound and though the vocalist
wailed, the drummer/guitar player couldn't fill out the sound. I
wish I had seen them in a smaller club first.

Bratmobile -- Remember them? The girls in the
crowd wen't wild for this band, and rightly so. The highlight of
their set for me was the action off stage though. Some drunk and
unruly dude was being dragged out of the venue during Bratmobile's
set because he was screaming sexist bullshit at the band. The cops
were called, the dude was taken away, however there were obviously
some questions by the police as to what the alcohol policies were,
etc. There was some talk about the show being shut down early, but
things worked out. There was no alcohol on Sunday and it kept things
much, much mellower.

Shellac -- These guys are old....but they are
still pretty spectacular. They played the hits, including "Dog
and Pony Show" and really sounded pretty incredible. Steve
Albini took questions from the crowd, berated some kid for his crazy
colored hair, and did that weird arm waving claw thing (pictured)
a lot. Their dry humour/sarcasm on-stage was definitely as distinct
as their music.

Xiu Xiu -- Wow, these guys are great. Kind of
reminded me of XTC and David Byrne. Keyboards, gongs, accordian,
guitar, violin?, a bunch of other crazy instruments = a sound that
filled up the room. I can't wait to see these guys again.

Pilot To Gunner -- My friend said, "These
guys would have been huge five years ago," and I think he was
on-point. They basically sound like a cross between Hey Mercedes
and Cadillac Blindside. Not bad, and very different from anyone
else that played all weekend.

Kill Me Tommorow -- I was pretty impressed by
these guys, though I'm not sure how to describe them. I got a kind
of dark feeling from their music. Very rhythm driven.

The Lack -- This was definitely the strongest
I've seen these guys. The Lack is dark and noisy industrial rock.
Two live drum kits, bass, guitars, samplers, keyboards, computer
junk and a sound that is captivating.

Party of Helicopters are my favorite band so I am a little biased,
but I still think they were awesome. They played several songs from
Space and How Sweet It Was..., one from Abracadaver,
one from Mt. Forever, and two new ones. Their new ones don't
seem as strong as their older stuff, but maybe I just need time
to warm up to them. Jamie Stillman, dressed in all white and a black
belt, is the Pete Townsend of D.I. Y. Joe Dennis may very well be
Freddy Mercury reincarnate....Another great performance.
