Boston, MA’s Pile have released “Texas,” the lead single from their upcoming fifth full-length album, A Hairshirt of Purpose. NPR, who premiered the song today, are saying it “the band balances the acrobatic and the annihilating as it shifts between gnarled melodies and heavy thrashing. While Pile’s music often dwells in extremes, even its heaviest moments rarely feel outwardly aggressive. Maguire is inviting listeners inside his head, and it’s loud in there.”
When asked, Pile vocalist/guitarist Rick Maguire said A Hairshirt of Purpose is an album about “the joys of solitude” and “the inescapable selfishness of every action.” Pile balance their ferocious tendencies with moments of beauty, building tension with release never too far behind.
A Hairshirt of Purpose is available for pre-order now and due out March 31 via Exploding In Sound Records.
