Balance and Composure, Acoustic, No Sleep

Featuring three songs from what was damn near my favorite album of 2011, Separation, Balance and Composure deliver an acoustic EP/7” uncovering an extremely passionate group of songs that translate seamlessly for their unplugged treatments.  Though vocalist Jon Simmons typically delivers the three songs here with a growl and under a cloak of distortion, the undercurrent melodies behind “Stonehands,” “Separation,” and “More To Me” are powerful enough to hold their own without all the electric bells and whistles.  Though Simmons clearly penned “Where is the passion/diminished, it lays in the past…” from “Separation” with a failing relationship in mind, the poignant delivery of the line seems to work as irony against any haters questioning the band’s softer approach here.  This is a skillful band capable of navigating the dynamics of both a big rock performance and an intimate acoustic one.  And this 7” is a must own.
