Vacation

Bomb the Music Industry!, Vacation, Ernest Jenning / Really

If there were ever a tour package that combined Weezer, Against Me! and Titus Andronicus, then Brooklyn-based punk band Bomb The Music Industry! have postured themselves as the perfect support act for the tour.  Their sixth record, Vacation, is a genre juggling, hooky and anthemic record that is as fun as it is explosive.  “Vocal Coach” erupts with a cacophonous guitar jangle and bouncy synth line that resonates equal parts Superchunk and Weezer.  Brief interlude, “Sponge Board/Baby Waves” nods to Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, and “Hurricane Waves” has a Ramones flavor.  Frontman Jeff Rosenstock has really shattered expectations here – where BtMI!’s previous output established the band as a heavyweight in the punk scene, epic songs here like “The Shit That You Hate” showcase a band worthy of heavyweight status in both the underground and mainstream.  Vacation has humor, heart, and is worthy of a singalong, which I’m sure I’ll be doing will into 2012.
