The Story Changes, This Is Your Moment
The Story Changes, This Is Your Moment EP, I Am Shark
It is no secret that I’ve long been a longtime fan of The Story Changes’ bombastic, no-nonsense approach to rock music. With their This Is Your Moment EP they certainly aren’t losing any ground. “Tidal Wave” shows TSC treading new water as they incorporate an ominous piano intro that sets the song’s moody tone. “How Long,” a track that previously belonged to the COMPassion Japan relief effort, is lighter fare that is reminiscent of the band’s pop-emo roots. If I were to guess, TSC vocalist/guitarist Mark McMillion took some cues from Jets To Brazil while writing that one. “World’s Collide,” a track that features a strong guitar lead and picks up some synth flair mid-song, is a track that showcases exactly what these guys are capable of, which is going toe-to-toe in big rock style with bands like Motion City Soundtrack and Foo Fighters. The final cut here is TSC’s take on Nirvana’s “Breed,” which doesn’t diverge much from the ballsy original. Simply, it is a well done salute to a band that I’m guessing inspired TSC’s musical leanings from jump street. As a bonus, for those who show up early, the release is available on baby blue, hand numbered 7″ vinyl limited to 500. Check it: http://iamshark.limitedpressing.com/products/10343.
