Musician, poet and author Gil Scott-Heron has passed away. While his cause of death is currently unknown, we do know he died May 27 at the age of 62. Jamie Byng, Scott-Heron’s UK publisher, first confirmed the news on his Twitter.

Scott Brackett (ex-Okkervil River) has joined Murder By Death. Brackett had previously toured with the band on occasion and has now officially become part of the full-time line up. The group is touring in support of their fifth full-length album, Good Morning, Magpie, which was released in April 2010 on Vagrant Records.
John Congleton and Jason Garner of The Paper Chase have teamed up with members of Wires Under Tension (Chris Tignor), Shearwater (Kevin Schneider), and the Hospital Ships (Jordan Geiger) to form The Nighty Nite. The band’s debut EP is titled Dimples and is due out June 21.
Trent Reznor was been working with Atticus Ross to produce the score for the American remake of, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Big Business have added guitarist Scott Martin of 400 Blows/Crom fame to their lineup, bolstering their lineup to a quartet. In addition to that, the group will be releasing a four song 12″ titled Quadruple Single through their own Gold Metal Records label on July 26.
Philadelphia’s annual This is Hardcore festival posted an official announcement on their website including the lineup, venue, block party plans, and charitable donations.
